Now, you may have thought about the candle you burn daily, and chances are that it has some amount of soy wax in the candle. How is soy wax created? You may have asked yourself this questions before. Well, I’m here to give you an overview on how it is created.
Soy wax if made by first clearing the land that will be used to farm the soybean crop. Much of the US has land that is strictly reserved for growing soybean crops.
After the farm land is cleared, there is the planting and caring for the crops that need to be focused on. Majority of soybean farmer use GMO seeds to great improve the oil quality that extract from the soybean as well as the yield that is received from using GMO seeds. Pesticides and herbicides play a big role in keeping the soybean crops healthy and pest free.
Once the caring for the crop is finished, it is time to harvest the crop. Farming equipment is used to harvest the crops more quickly and efficiently. Large truck the transport the crop to a processing facility that may or may not be over seas. Once at the processing facility, the soybean crop is put through a chemical process to extract the most oil from the soybean plant. The chemical Hexane is usually used in this chemical process. The soy oil turns into a solid through a process called hydrogenation. During this time, other chemicals are additives are added the hardening oil to refine the properties of the wax. This helps to make the soy wax more "candle friendly".
